My Holiday Activities

I am back after a short hiatus for the holiday. We had a great Christmas celebration. We spent Christmas eve at my in-laws' place and Christmas day at my parents' house. RJ had great bonding time with her cousins. She was happy because she got many gifts, including new bicycle, our Christmas gift to her.

The other day, we watched Disney on Ice at the Araneta Coliseum. It was Rj's first time and she asked if we can watch it again next year. Glad that Rhonnel bought tickets earlier. Disney on Ice will be shown until the 3rd of January next year but all tickets are sold out except for the upper box B and general admission.

It was only yesterday that I was able to take a nap in the afternoon. I slept at 2 p.m. and woke up at almost 6:30 p.m. When I opened my eyes, there was RJ and she said "Mabuti naman gising ka na" (Good that you are awake yet) in a sarcastic tone. lol! My daughter can't believe that I slept that long in the afternoon.

Tomorrow, I'll be busy again preparing food and cooking. Then in the evening we'll have a street party. It's not the last party yet for we are still waiting for the confirmation of 2 reunions, reunion with our friends (hubby's highschool classmates) and reunion with my bestfriend and her family. This holiday is very exhausting and energy draining but we are enjoying so much. Hope you are enjoying your holiday too.

Happy New Year everyone! Wishing you all a fruitful 2010.

PBM Wins Suit Against Mead Johnson

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of PBM Products. All opinions are 100% mine.

Choosing how to feed our baby is one of the most important decisions we make. Of course human breast milk is the best source of nutrition for our baby and it is highly recommended, but sometimes breastfeeding isn’t possible, like on my case, wherein I only had breast milk two months. Although breast milk is the best source of nutrition for our baby, we shouldn't feel bad or guilty if we can’t breast feed our baby for some reasons because baby formulas are specially made to meet babies' nutritional needs.

All infant formulas are regulated by the FDA and so the safety and nutritional quality of infant formulas are ensured by requiring that manufacturers follow specific procedures in manufacturing infant formulas. Under the Infant Formula Act, all formulas marketed in the United States must meet minimum nutrient requirements. That is why Mead Johnson, maker of Enfamil, loses multi-million dollar false advertising case against Store-Brand infant formulas, Store-Brand formulas found in federal court to be nutritionally equivalent to and confer the same developmental benefits as the more expensive national brands.

Last December 2, 2009, PBM Products, LLC, a leading infant formula company that supplies store-brand infant formulas to Walmart, Sam's Club, Target, Kroger, Walgreens, and other retailers, has received a favorable jury verdict and a $13.5 million damages award in its false advertising lawsuit against Mead Johnson & Co. This incident cost some parents hundreds of dollars extra in one year of formula purchases.

There are many brands of infant formulas in the market and it’s hard which one to choose for our baby. Deciding which brand and type of infant formula can be somewhat confusing but let us not forget that these milk formulas are regulated by the FDA and these regulations and the Infant Formula Act help to make sure that all infant formulas are nutritionally complete and safe for our baby. Try to compare the label of different milk formula and you'll see that the cheaper milk formulas have the same nutritional content as the expensive ones. So why buy brands that will stretch your purse strings? PBM’s store-brand formulas (including those of sold at leading retailers such as Wal-Mart, Target, Walgreens, and many others) cost up to 50% less than Enfamil, LIPIL, and allow parents to save as much as $600 per year on their formula purchases.

Breast milk is still the best for our babies but infant formula is a practical and safe alternative to breast milk.

Smartbro Part 2

October and November were difficult for me because of our intermittent internet connection. My husband was calling Smartbro, our internet provider's customer service and their agents had the same answer: "technical adjustment on their base station", the base station where we are getting our signal. When we didn't get any result after a month, I decided to blog about our problem with Smartbro's service last November 3 and got an answer from Smartbro's Social Media Services on November 8 on my comment box.

Hi ,
We would like to help you regarding you Smart Bro concern, please email us your account details at ISMS@smart.com.ph

Thank you
Social Media Services
Smart Communications

So my husband emailed them immediately. He explained that we wanted our internet connection to be transferred to another base station wherein the signal is good. After a week, our request was granted. On the third week of November, their line men fixed our antenna and faced it to the other base station. We are connected to that base station for one month now and I can say though there are times we are having slow connections, we are not experiencing intermittent connections anymore.

I have proven that blog really do wonders. Thanks to Smartbro for attending to our request.

A Wheat Farm to Fork Experience

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Wheat Food Council. All opinions are 100% mine.

When my husband was diagnosed of having high blood pressure last year, he shifted to healthy diet. He eats more vegetables, eats food without trans fat and shifted from white bread to wheat bread. Wheat, according to his doctor contains fiber, antioxidants such as Vitamin E and selenium, iron, magnesium, zinc and B vitamins. Wheat, in its natural unrefined state, features a host of important nutrients. Therefore, to receive benefit from wheat it is important to choose wheat products made from whole wheat flour rather than those that are refined and stripped of their natural goodness.

Wheat, like any other food, takes an interesting journey before it becomes delicious muffins, bread, pies, tortilla or pasta dish. If you want to experience how wheat on our plate comes to be, visit How Wheat Works, an online multimedia program created by Wheat Foods Council. It is a four-phase interactive program for all ages filled with factual information wherein you can grow, harvest, mill and bake your desired wheat food.

Eating wheat is very beneficial though the benefit of wheat depend entirely on the form in which you eat it. On How Wheat works, you can learn how to prepare different wheat-based recipes if you extend your learning experience after each phase. And by completing the program, you will be able to give wheat to those in need. The council will donate two pounds of flour up to 90,000 pounds to Operation Homefront, a non-profit that provides assistance to needy U.S. troops and their families.

Wheat Foods Council is extending this exciting farm to fork experience to us especially to our children. This will teach them how this most important cereal crop in the world and most consumed grain in America, is an important part of a healthy diet. By supporting this program, we'll not just gain wheat knowledge but help other families as well.

Lopez Link-Improving the Lopez Group's Services

It is common knowledge to all Filipinos that the Lopez Group is providing us with some of our basic needs and services like Meralco, BayanTel, ABS CBN, Sky Cable, etc. And because of their yearning to provide us with more quality service, they launched the Lopez Link, the official monthly publications of the Lopez Group of companies. Through this website, we can keep track of their activities, latest projects and programs and achievements as well. You can view the Lopez Group's activities and achievements in 2009 at the Lopez Link 2009 Year End Report.

One of their recent achievements and good news is, the Knowledge Channel and Department of Education renew basic education tools development partnership, a 10-year partnership, helps in improving the classroom interaction through information and communication technology. This was formalized during the 1st Knowledge Channel Stakeholders Awards.

Knowledge Channel is the first and only all-educational cable TV channel in the Philippines, through ABS CBN, made available for free in public schools nationwide. The curriculum-based and life skills programming made accessible primarily to the public basic educational system through broadcast. This is a big help to the public schools wherein the number of students keep on growing every year yet the books and classrooms keep on dilapidating. This is a long time problem that can't be solved because of the governments funding problem. Knowledge Channel can help to uplift the quality of education in public schools.

Lopez Link also has forum section. I just joined the discussion about "Teaching the Save the Pasig Campaign to Children". It is one of the many topics being discussed in the forum. You can also join the forum and voice out your sentiments, complaints and suggestions to help improve the Lopez Group's services like the Sky Cable and ABS CBN programs.

Christmas Decorations

When we were still young, our Mother used to put up Christmas decorations on the first week of October. I think that was too early so I broke that tradition and decorate our house every first week of December instead. We have garlands on our main door, socks, wreath, Christmas light and of course Christmas tree. Putting up Christmas tree is a family tradition. Our Christmas is not complete without it.Our Christmas tree decorated with red poinsettia, gold balls, and red ribbons.
Our main door with garland, wreath and socks.

The custom of erecting a Christmas tree, originally a fir tree, evolved in Germany almost 1,000 years ago. But it is not until 16th century that fir trees were brought indoors on Christmas time. In 19th century, it spread rapidly and grew into a general German custom. It is widely held belief that Martin Luther, the Protestant reformer, first added lighted candles to a tree. (source)

By the 1890's, Christmas decorations were arriving from Germany and Christmas tree popularly was on the rise around the U.S., Europe and other countries. On the early 20th century, we started decorating it with homemade ornaments and the electricity brought about Christmas lights, making it possible for the Christmas tree to glow especially at night. Now, having a Christmas tree at home is a tradition around the world. (source)

Go Green with Wool

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Ramblers Way. All opinions are 100% mine.

Going green doesn't only mean eating organic food. It also means supporting pro-environment causes and patronizing products that are natural. However, it is hard to find such products today except for clothing of course.

Many clothing companies are still using natural materials like cotton and wool in making their products but I would prefer products made of wool for I want comfortable, practical and beautiful clothing made with the highest quality fibers, yarns and fabrics.

Wool has several qualities that distinguish it from cotton, polyester and other synthetic fibers. Aside from being resistant to dirt and wear and tear, it is also resistant to static electricity and has a lower rate of flame spread. It is less likely to spark or cling to the body.

Ramblers Way worsted wool is lightweight and readily absorbs and gives off moisture. It is equally warm and cool and can be worn nearly year-round. It is very versatile that you can wear it outdoors for your biking, fishing, walking, etc., or wear it under your office uniform while staying warm, dry and comfortable. Imagine yourself sleeping on your clean bed with just a soft, spongy wool clothing on. Just a thought of it is very relaxing yet.

What is worsted wool by the way? Yeah, I heard you asking. Worsted wool means the wool fibers are untangled, laid straight side by side and cleaned from debris so it is free of those pesky, itchy loose ends. Not only that, it is good for the environment because it is all natural, non-synthetic and chemical free.

Go green not just by simply eating organic food but by buying Ramblers Way wool products too.

Support Worthy Causes

When typhoon Ondoy (typhoon Ketsana) hit the country, we asked for donations, monetary and used clothing, from our neighbors to help the people living in the nearby subdivision that was badly affected by the typhoon. It was a success because many responded. The money we have collected was used to purchase canned goods, biscuits, instant noodles, milk and rice that were given to the flood victims, with the clothes of course. It was an unforgettable experience. I can’t explain what I felt after. It was very exhilarating and it lifted me. I have done something good and worthwhile. It’s the same feeling every time I give donations.

A donation is a gift given for charitable purposes or to benefit a cause. It is given without return consideration. It can be for medical care needs like blood and organs for transplant, development aid support, cash, services, goods, toys, clothing and food. You can give anything you want that will benefit others. But do you know that you can donate vehicles too? This may be new to you but yes you can donate a car to charity.

There are many non-profit charity organizations accepting donations of any type of vehicle even boats, airplanes, trucks, motorcycles and construction equipments. These organizations repair the vehicles and give to needy families and charities throughout the United States. If you are living in Seattle and interested in donating your car, you can visit donate your car Seattle.

You don’t need to drive to these organizations because you can donate your vehicle online and they will contact you for the final arrangements. They can pick up vehicle donation in every state so nothing to worry about if living anywhere in United States. If living in Seattle, donate car Seattle will have the right vehicle tow your car donation, the same procedure on other states, thus saving your time.

It is hassle selling a car because it needs more tasks and most of the time you don’t get what your car is really worth, while donating a car is completely hassle-free. Donate your old cars now rather than sell or just junk them. Take my words, it feels good helping others and supporting worthy causes.

The People on My Christmas Wish List

Gift-giving is a tradition since ancient times that we practice until now. While gifts are given on different occasions and holidays, the largest of the gift-giving occasions is Christmas. It is because Christmas is a celebration of merry making and gift-giving. Even the birth of Jesus Christ was associated with gifts when the three Wise Men or Magi brought gifts to honor Him. Gifts could be items or monetary that are given to our loved ones, relatives and friends. On our case, we give gifts not only to the people who are dear to us but also to those who are part of our everyday life which makes the people on my Christmas wish list long. This is our Girls Talk theme today.

First on the list, of course no other than Rhonnel and RJ. Until now I don't know what to give them.

My parents and parents-in-law. We usually give them money. It is more practical because they are all taking their maintenance meds.

Our siblings, BIL and SIL. We give them gifts that can be used by couple for us to save a little.

Nephews and nieces. This is where we spend much. They are only 5 but we can't give them something cheap. They are like our own children.

Godchildren...all of them. I have 10 godchildren and Rhonnel has 22.

Friends...I only have few here because most of them are living overseas.

Tito Art, RJ's service in school.

Manang, the one who delivers Sampaguita to us every Wednesday and Sunday.

Mang Ruben, the mailman.

RJ's teachers and friends. They are on RJ's list but it's still me who will buy the gifts.

Security guards at the banks.

Security guards of Natasha and Mse (our small business).

Children in our neighborhood (our street only).

A quite long list. This is where most of Rhonnel's bonus goes. lol! But it is good to always share our blessings. As the saying goes, it is better to give than to receive.

Why is Water Important

Manila Water is operational in our subdivision for 3 weeks now. At last, we have a clean and potable water that was long denied to us by our developer. It is fruit of the hard works of the officers of our homeowners association.

A clean water is important to sustain a good and healthy life. We don't need to look only on the quality of water that we are drinking but also whether we are drinking enough water. The average human adult needs 8 glasses everyday or more. Water makes up 70-75% of the body weight of the human being. If we don't drink water in the right quantity, we may face problems. A mild dehydration will slows down one's metabolism by 3%. Yes, water plays an important role in the digestion of solid foods. And even a 2% drop in water can trigger blurry short term-memory.

Regular water consumption is essential for many functions of the body.
1. It helps keep blood circulation going.
2. It helps the liver in metabolizing the fat.
3. It helps with the protection and lubrication of joints.
4. It helps control the delicate balances of concentrations within the cells.
5. It helps protect the tissues and organs in the body.
5. It helps keep the salts in our body in a non-toxic form.
7. It regulates and maintains body temperature through perspiration.
8. It is essential for transporting hormones, nutrients and waste products around the body.

The bottom line is, aside from healthy diet and regular exercise, drink lots of water and you will be fine. That's how important water is.

Online Math Help

Many students are asking why they need to study mathematics and its branches. Well, it is because Mathematics is used throughout the world as an essential tool in many fields, including engineering, medicine, social sciences and the natural science.

Mathematics is a complicated subject. Mathematicians seek out patterns, formulate and establish truth by precise deduction from appropriately chosen axioms and definitions. Yes, that’s how brainstorming it is.

I am not lifting my own bench but I am quite good in Mathematics. It is my favorite subject and I got high grades in it when I was still studying. If you are struggling in Mathematics and looking for a Math refresher, there are many online tutoring that can help you with your Math problem, homework and exam preparations. They offer lots of lessons, from basics to Algebra help all the way up.

Unlike the private tutors and learning centers wherein you have to pay on a per hour basis, you can access online tutoring 24/7 and use it from the comfort of your own home. You can choose the teacher you like because it is not limited to one teacher plus you can have unlimited access to videos, quizzes and progress reports.

The scope and complexity of Mathematics requires fine analysis. However, your child need not be a genius in order to get good grades in Math. All he need is to fully understand the subject with the help of the best teachers. Don’t have second thoughts if you want your child to be good in Math. Try online Math help and surprise his teacher with his perfect quizzes and exams.

Your Tool for the 2010 Elections

The other day while hubby and I were on bed, we were talking about the 2010 political candidates. We were weighing things and recalling the achievements of each one of them. The country is sinking economically and morally. We need a leader with an iron-hand who is capable of uplifting the economic status of the country. But it’s hard to choose so we slept undecided.

The 2010 election is near and the ads of the presidentiables and other political candidates are everywhere. However, these ads can’t help us to choose the right leader for our country. Why? These ads are all positive because they are building up their candidates. The convictions of their relatives and friends can’t help us either. Of course, who would say anything negative about their candidates? They all wanted to win. It is hard to weigh things if it’s one-sided. We should hear the opinions of the candidates themselves about different issues and the opinions as well of the common citizens like us so I suggest you join political forums.I just signed up today at Politicalarena.com, the first socio-political networking site in the country. It serves as a venue for candidates and voters of Philippine 2010 elections to communicate with each other. This is in partnership with COMELEC, PPCRV and Youth Vote Philippines and operates under the network of 88db.com. Not only the profiles of the 2010 presidentiables are posted on the site but also their opinions on social and political issues like Labor and Employment, Infrastructure, Justice, Civil Rights, Economy and Commerce, and Education.Politicalarena.com is a big help for voter’s education. It can help to educate the first time voters and encourage them to participate in the 2010 national elections. It allows voters to get up close and personal with presidential candidates and learn more about their principles, view and goals. You can even post questions and join the forum and let your voice be heard. In fact, I just posted a question to all the presidentiables which will be answered in 24 hours. I can't wait for their answers. It will help me decide whom I am going to vote for.

But may I remind you that this will just serve as your guide to know and learn more about the candidates of the Philippine 2010 elections. As a voter, choose wisely and hear only your conviction and not the conviction of anyone else.

My Birthday

I was born on June 10, 1971 in Pasay City. I am a first born, delivered by a midwife in the house that my parents were renting that time. Though my father was expecting a boy as their eldest, they were happy to see me. I was as white as "labanos" or radish according to them. They named me Rosalie, given by my father's eldest sister. It means rose or rose garden. And because I am a Gemini, I am good in multitasking.

My Chinese Zodiac is pig. Contrary to its rather negative reputation in the West, the Pig of Chinese Astrology may be the most generous and honorable Sign of the Zodiac. Pigs are nice to a fault and possess impeccable manners and taste. They have so much of the perfectionist in them that others may be inclined to perceive them as snobs, but this is a misconception. This Sign believes in the best qualities of mankind and certainly doesn't consider itself to be superior. Pigs also care a great deal about friends and family and work hard to keep everyone in their life happy. Helping others is a true pleasure for the Pig, who feels best when everyone else is smiling.

Pigs make great companions in part because of their refusal to see the more negative or base qualities in a partner, but that rose-colored view can lead to this Sign's allowing itself to be taken advantage of. Contrary to their seemingly benign dispositions, however, Pigs can be quite venomous in response to being crossed by a lover, friend or business partner.

Pigs are highly intelligent creatures, forever studying, playing and probing in their quest for greater knowledge. They can be misinterpreted as being lazy, however, due to their love of reveling in the good stuff; this Sign could happily spend hours on end making love, napping, taking a long bubble bath or dallying over an incredible spread of rich foods. Pigs tend to make wonderful life partners due to their hearts of gold and their love of family. Even so, Pigs can be rather exclusive, choosing to spend time with those who will appreciate them most and ignore the rest of the populace. Pigs would do well to realize that there's more to life than being needed. When they open up their world to a diverse group of people, they will truly bloom. (source)
Birth Talk is the theme on Niko's this week.

Get Rid of Age Spots

I did not like what I saw when I looked at the mirror this morning. I look older than my age. I don’t have time to go to spa and dermatologist anymore because of my hectic days. I think I need to buy new skin care products that will do all the work for my skin.

I am one of the lucky persons who are not prone to acne so I didn’t get a chance to use acne products. But I noticed the appearance of age spots on my face lately and it is getting worse everyday. Experts say age spots have a little to do with aging but they have a lot to do with the sun. Age spots refer to the brown spots that form in the skin due to damage done by excessive sun exposure. It is also called as liver spots, sun spots and solar lentigines. Our skin has melanin pigment which absorbs sunlight and helps naturally protect our skin from UV rays. However as we age, our skin's natural ability to block off UV rays from the sun begins to deteriorate. As we age our skin is subjected to more and more sun damage, as a result, we see the development of age spots.

Though age spots are harmless, they don’t look good on the skin either. There are many ways to get rid of it. However, getting rid of age spots takes patience, like getting rid of scars or getting rid of wrinkles. You can use creams with Alpha Hydroxy Acids, retinoids, vitamin C serum and the age spots and pigment lightening gel that improves clarity by lifting away dark, damaged cells. You should also stay away from the sun which is impossible for me because I am living in a tropical country where the sun never sleeps. So the use of sun screen with a high SPF rating every single day irrespective of the weather is a must.

Our skin is as important as our inner self. Healthy skin not just makes us beautiful but it also helps us build confidence. The smooth and fresh skin adds to our enjoyment and makes our day. Most people are responsive to our queries plus we gain more friends and respect. Importance of healthy skin cannot be ignored. Achieving a healthy and smooth skin is not difficult these days because of the many skin care products available in the market today.
