Reading – The Thing We Love So Much

I am back to my normal self…well partly. I still have no time for regular beauty rituals but I am glad I found time to dig again into good mystery novels. Yes, I love blogging but reading will always be my first love. Since I was introduced to blogging, it made me less interested to read…my books were untouched and were feasted on by dusts for almost two years. But when my friend Rose Cotrill sent me a book, the lost passion hit me again while reading the said book. As they say, first love never dies. The reason why reading had once again (as it used to be) become part of my daily routine.

Hubby loves books too. He always has a book tucked in his bag that he reads while he is on his way to the office or anywhere else. That is why it is not surprising that our daughter RJ is a good reader. Just like us, she has this passion for reading most especially on books about Science and Geography. Whenever she sees books on siegel literature displays or shelves, she would browse the books excitedly and will not go home unless she has a book with her.

There are times you can see the three of us reading in our couch while munching on chips, each with our favorite book on hand…one of our best bonding moments. Others may think we are being lazy but we are not. We just want to spend a good part of our day doing things that we love so much…and that is reading.

Tips to Keep You Safe

“REPOST: MAKATI POLICE. This msg is for every girl who goes out from home, office or school alone. if you find any child crying on the road showing his address & asks you to take him to that address, take the child to the police station & dont take him to that address. Its a new way of gang, to RAPE women/teenage girls. Pls forward 2 all female or boys having sisters/gf. Our 1 msg may save a million. PLEASE SPREAD!”

This warning from Makati police is now spreading on Facebook and I was one of those who reposted it. It is a new modus operandi. I am not sure if this is true or not but one thing is for sure, there is always danger outside as there is danger at home so we must be alert and vigilant at all times. Many get robbed, conned, kidnapped, raped every day most especially in Metro Manila and its suburbs. Just last week, a neighbor of ours was victimized by “Budol-budol Gang”. He easily gave the woman she doesn’t know fifteen thousand pesos ($350). I am afraid that there is no safe place in the world anymore. But still, you can do many things to keep you safe. Here are some tips that may help to keep you safe:

1. When walking outside with bags or belongings, hug/hold them tight and always anticipate that someone will snatch them.

2.  If the robber asks for your wallet/purse, do not hand it to him. Toss it away from you. Chances are he is more interested in your money so he will go for your wallet/purse. It is then your chance to run like mad away from him.

3.  If you are getting into your car in a parking lot or garage, look first around you then look into your car and make sure that there’s no someone inside. Then get into your car, lock the doors and leave at once. Never get near into any parked vehicle.

4.  Avoid dark corridors/hallways and always take the elevator instead of the stairs. These are horrible places to be alone and the perfect crime spot most especially at night.

5.  Do not go alone on places you are unfamiliar with.

6.  If you wake up in the middle of the night and hear suspicious/weird sounds, do not go out to investigate. Contact the neighborhood watch or authorities in your area and have them check the sound.

6.  Contact authorities immediately if there is suspicious or unlawful activity in your neighborhood.

7.  Scream, run and fight if anyone tried to grab you.

Seems like the bad elements have never ceased to disturb us. It is better to be watchful and paranoid than to be sorry in the end.

My Would Be Car

I do not know anything about cars as we do not have one. But if ever I’ll get the chance to have a car of my own, I want it to be black. I have read somewhere that black cars are not good as it is accident prone at night, it’s hotter inside and it shows dirt. Too many negative feedback on black cars but let’s face it, black cars look great and more sophisticated.

My would-be car doesn’t have to be Lamborghini, Porsche, or Benz. All it has to be is black in color.

Whaling In Faroe Islands

I received an email today from a blogger friend about the killings of hundreds of Calderon dolphins at Faroe Islands in Denmark. I was shocked with the pictures of the said sea creatures that were brutally killed with hooks. Why kill the famous and intelligent dolphins? I have learned from research that they are pilot whales and not dolphins.

The whaling happens every year in Faroe Islands. It is a community effort for storing valuable whale meat and products for the winter as the Pilot whale meat is important part of the Faroese’ staple diet. It is regulated by Faroese authorities but not by the International Whaling Commission as there are disagreements about the Commission’s competency for small cetaceans. However, the animal rights groups criticize the hunt as unnecessary barbaric acts.

Dolphin or whales, it doesn’t matter. What matters is to stop these brutal killings of any creatures on earth. We must all understand that the earth’s balance is altered by the extinction of different species and may cause a very bad domino effect. Stop the killings of different species to avoid future environmental catastrophe.

When I heard the voice of our new postman, my heart leaped and I had goose bumps. I already knew what it is about as I and RJ were waiting for it. Weee, I was right! It was a parcel from my very good online friend, Clarissa of Kizuna and Brilliant Days. I know Mommy Clang doesn’t want her gifts to be posted online but this is the second time I received gifts from her so it’s about time to disobey her. I want her to know how thankful I am. So what’s inside the parcel?

Bento accessories!!!

Bento Accessories

bento picks, bento sauce and condiments containers,
egg molders and a lunch box

Actually, I requested for it. That’s how barefaced I am. Lol! Seriously, when RJ saw Mommy Clang’s bento, she kept on bugging me to make bento for her school lunch. If you have no idea what bento is, you can check Mommy Clang’s bentou’s here, here, here and here. It’s hard to make bento without the needed tools so I asked Mommy Clang if she can buy for us then I’ll just pay her through paypal. But Mommy Clang is so generous that she sent it as birthday gifts for me and RJ. Teehee!

God is so good for giving me good and generous online friends. To you Mommy Clang, thank you very, very much from the bottom of our hearts. We hope to meet you and your family someday.
