A Campaign to Eliminate Plastic Bags

Millions of plastic bags end up in trash everyday and we all know that these are non-biodegradable and are big contribution to flooding and to global warming. According to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, in Metro Manila alone, more than seven million kilograms of garbage are being collected every day and more than a million kilos of these are plastic materials.

To put an end to this problem, the government came up with this campaign that will help to eliminate plastic bags. Starting Wednesday, September 29, plastic bags will no longer be given free in all groceries and supermarkets nationwide. Each bag will be sold for at least P3.50. This campaign is to encourage the consumers to use eco bags when shopping. I am glad for this another worthwhile campaign though this should be launched years ago. But I think it would be best to ban the use of plastic bags not only in the groceries and supermarkets but in wet markets as well so as to totally eliminate these harmful elements in our environment.
