Of all types of jewelry, diamonds are considered to be one of the most expensive thus making it a worthy investment. That’s why, diamonds should be chosen wisely.

Enlisted below are some of the basic steps on how to determine the genuineness of a diamond. The most popular way on how to do it is by utilizing the 4 C’s or Cut, Color, Clarity and Carat. These four things will be the ultimate tool to determine a real diamond.

A diamond’s cut refers to the proportions to which the stone was polished. The American Gem Society (AGS) has come up with a cut grade with their records. They are using the scale of 0-10 wherein 0 refers to the perfect cut which is extremely rare.

The color of the diamond is based on the worldwide color scale derived from The Gemological Institute of America (GIA). It ranges from D-Z wherein D being colorless and Z being light yellow or yellow.

Clarity refers to the degree to which a diamond is free of blemishes in short it refers to its cleanliness. Very clean diamonds are very hard find and expected to be very expensive. Some of them are embedded in a slane bee pendant or being placed in an expensive ring.  Experts are using 10 x magnifications in grading clarity in diamond.

The last one to check would be the carat. Among the four, it is the easiest to measure. It is basically the weight of the stone. 1 carat is equivalent to 0.2 grams and referred as 100 “points”.

Having these basic information for your diamond is already an edge to acquire the genuine ones.
