Fun at Work: Happy Employees Equals Better Profits

How absolutely fun it would be to have a huge plasma in the employee lounge with all the most entertaining channels. Employers would most likely frown at this idea thinking that their employees would spend more time in the lounge than in their workstations. There is, however, value in giving your employees some time to unwind in the middle of the day. You do have to be strict with your rules, but you also have to show your employees that you care about their needs too – even if it’s as trivial as being able to watch entertaining television shows during their break time. It does not have to cost you a lot of money to do this. Besides, your employees are bound to be happier and more productive when you give them time for rest and entertainment during the day.

Studies show that people who are given time to recharge in the middle of the day become more creative and productive. Google has an outrageous way of providing entertainment for its employees. You do not necessarily have to go this route especially if you are a conservative businessman. A comfortable lounge with all the amenities that your employees need to kick off their shoes for an hour at mid-day should be enough. If you have space, you can even have cubicles designed for napping. A quick power nap can do wonders for your employees’ level of alertness. This is also especially beneficial if you operate round the clock.

It would be beneficial to you to keep your employees happy. Happy employees are more motivated to work. You cannot expect disgruntled employees to keep on exerting 100% effort in their jobs. These employees often grumble because they feel that they are not getting what they want from their employers and are therefore only willing to do minimal work. You do not necessarily have to give your employees the moon and the stars. You will probably run yourself to bankruptcy if you give in to the whims of your employees. You do have to keep them happy with the little things that you can give. Giving them non-cash benefits as well as providing them with a nurturing environment is a great way to address their emotional needs so that they do not get in the way of productivity and efficiency.
