Finally, I got the time to join Mommy C5’s new meme…Continuous Learning. What I want to share this week is the possessive forms of nouns. I always get confuse as to when to add apostrophe and s (’s) or just an apostrophe (’) to the words that end in s. So here are some rules…
-Add only an apostrophe (’) to plural nouns ending in s.
e.g. the boys’ toys
-Add an apostrophe and s (’s) to one-syllable noun that ends in s.
e.g. Tess’s bag
However, if the next word starts with s, add only apostrophe (’) to the possessor.
e.g. Tess’ suitcase
-Add only an apostrophe (’) to more-than-one-syllable nouns ending in s.
e.g. Andres’ pants
-Add an apostrophe (’) to proper nouns with two or more syllables that have an s sound before the last s sound.
e.g. Moises’ house

That’s a very good set of tips! They’re really confusing. I never knew about the 2nd tip since I always disregard the additional s after apostrophe if the word already ends with s, regardless of how many syllables. I’m not good with rules…I just feel it. 😀 Thanks for joining! I hope others will, too. 🙂

very informative! and very confusing for me, I usually ask Mr. G when I’m not sure of placing apostrophe. 🙂
