Protect Your Eyesight

Our eyesight is our most valuable sense because about 80% of what we perceive through our senses comes from our sight. But still, many people are not protecting their eyes the way they should.  Having routine eye exams every year is an important step in protecting your eyesight and yet only few people bother to have an annual eye exam. I must admit I am one of these guilty people.

There are no natural ways in restoring your eyesight. It’s either you have to wear eye glasses or contact lenses. But people like me who work online and spend much time in front of the computer, 8-12 hours a day, didn’t have much choice. And though you rest your eyes every 20 minutes, still there are times that you will experience having blurry visions.

The easiest way to protect your eyesight is by eating foods that are rich in antioxidant vitamins and minerals. Based on the research conducted by the National Eye Institute, diet can play a major role in controlling eye diseases such as mascular degeneration and cataract. Foods rich in carotenoids or Vitamin A are rich in substances that strengthen our eyes. Recent studies also show that food that contains pigments zeaxanthin and lutein has stronger healing effect.

There may be no natural way in restoring your eyesight but there are lots of natural foods that can protect it.

As a child I was told to eat carrots for good vision. It didn’t work 🙂 I’ve had glasses for 21yrs now and would actually love to get the surgery to avoid contacts and glasses altogether. That will happen when I win the lottery…lol

I only get eye exams when I get a new prescription for my glasses, which is every few years. I never thought of getting an annual exam, but I certainly don’t want my vision to deteriorate without intervention. It’s really a matter of booking an extra couple appointments to ensure a professional determines the status of my eyes.

Thank you for the suggestion.

I can relate to this, I am working as an internet marketer for over 4 months now and I have been experiencing watery eye and blurry vision for a week now. I been looking for a natural way on how to protect my eye from being damage. As of today I have 20/20 vision but I’m afraid that as time goes by my eyesight will just deteriorate. Thank you so much for this post.

Hi,

I’ve recently discovered your blog, and I wanted to send my thanks for your interesting posts, like this one. I had no idea diet made a difference with eyesight, but I will look into the foods you mentioned.

When I was young, my grandmother had a catchphrase: “Eat your carrots or you’ll have to wear glasses”. Well, I wear glasses. But I still love carrots.

Don’t forget laser eye surgery. Part of me is tempted, part of me is nervous.

I really appreciate this post. I am one of those people who spends 10 hours a day in front of the computer for work, and I don’t often give my eyes a rest. I will take your advice about eating those foods, because my eyesight is more important than my work.

Many people do really take their sight for granted, which is surely a sad thing 🙁 I just had my routine eye exam last week 😉 Such a sweet coinsidence to read a blog entry on vision today, when I was writing an entry about my eye glasses as well 😀 High five!

If we have eye problems, we have to consult our ophthalmologist or optometrist where we can wear a corrective eyeglasses. We must also eat fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin A like carrots. Thanks for the post. God bless you all always.
