Reportage on Crime

I love reading novels about crime and detective stories that is why I love Sidney Sheldon and John Grisham. Not only their stories are interesting but also the way the novels are written. As per local books, I love those written by Bob Ong because of the humorous real life experiences. Now I am currently reading “Reportage on Crime” authored by Nick Joaquin (Quijano de Manila), Philippines’ National Artist for Literature. This is the second local book I read after two decades. “Reportage on Crime” is a narrative of 13 anthology of true crime stories that hit the headlines in 1960’s. Well, the crimes here are peanuts compared to today’s crimes but what interesting about this book is how the author analyzes the character, motive, period and ambiance. I am fascinated also by the known personalities, both from showbiz and elite society, who were involved in homicides and other crimes in 1960’s.

The way the narrations are written made me realize why Nick Joaquin was proclaimed as National Artist of the Philippines in 1976. The way he writes, he can be ranked with my favorite authors.

Nick Joaquin is a great author indeed. He used to write in the defunct Philippine Free Press under the pseudo name Quijano de Manila. He is a multi awarded writer both here and abroad and has penned several immortal novels, short stories and poems like The Portrait of the Filipino As An Artist and The Summer Solstice. You are indeed an avid reader of the crime and punishment genre. Thanks for the post. God bless you all always.
