Eatables, Explorations and Expeditions

That is the title of our new blog…Eatables, Explorations and Expeditions. Teehee!  The said site was set up three months ago but it was only yesterday that I got the time to tweak and post something in it. Hubby would be my co-author because he travels more often than me. The title says it all. We’ll post here our thoughts and notes about restaurants, hotels and resorts, the places we will explore and our would be expeditions. Noticed the header?

I am proud to say that I was the one who designed/made it using photoshop. Isn’t it beautiful? I also tweaked the site a little and changed the background.

If you want to follow our new travel blog, just click the header. We would love to follow yours too. Just leave your comments together with your links. See you there!

The World Book and Copyright Day Celebration

The National Book Development Board in partnership with Intellectual Property Philippines and Filipinas Herigate Library, conducted free seminars at Technoportal UP-AyalaLand last April 15, in celebration of the World Book and Copyright Day. Copyright issues such as negotiating points in author-publisher agreements, arbitration in copyright disputes, copyright issued when publishing on the web and plagiarism vs. copyright, were tackled in the morning. Too bad I missed the said discussions. I was lucky though to be available in the afternoon where the topics about web and blogging were discussed.

World Book and Copyright Day

I was able to attend the “Making of the Bestseller:What Sells, What Does Not. It was a forum between authors, publishers and readers on what sells, what readers want to read, and what makes a bestseller. As Sidney Sheldon’s huge fan, I was surprised to know that what sells are adult fictions about paranormal, vampires, Greek mythology and beastly that is why Stephen King’s novels are one of the longest running bestsellers according to Jennifer Javier of Simon and Schuster. On the hand, according to Jun Balde of National Bookstore, books that are humurous yet inspirational are bestsellers too. That explains why Bob Ong’s books remain on the top of those books from Filipino authors.

Panelists: Jennifer Javier of Simon and Schuster
Jun Balde of National Bookstore and Visprint’s Nida Ramirez

I was also able to attend the “Publishing on the Web” where panelists bloggers were supposed to share how to turn online writing into a profitable pastime. This is my most awaited so I was a little disappointed when it did not turn out as I expected it to be. Iwa Wilwayco, the blogger who was supposed to give tips as to how we can earn through online publishing was not able to attend.

Panelists: Tweet Sering of Astigirl
and Tarie Sabido of Asia is in the Heart

There was also a forum about “Food and Travel Writing”. It was great to hear some tips about the expert bloggers of food and travel most especially from Ms. Kristine Fonacier of Lonely Planet Philippines. She’s soft-spoken yet very witty and articulate.

Panelists: Kristine Fonacier, Ivan Henares and JJ Yulo
Moderator: Susan Lara

One more good thing about the said event was, there was also acitivities for the kids so I tagged along my daughter RJ, my niece and nephew. They enjoyed the Book Illustration Workshop conducted by Adarna House.

Book Illustration Workshop

All in all, it was a great event. I learned a lot of things about blogging…that it is more important to post with substance and blog with dignity and credibility. Most of all I got the chance to meet some of the Mommies of PMC.

My Only Resolution

For this year, the only resolution I have is the work resolution. I am not promising anything but I will try my best to work harder. In fact I am infront of my pc and keying letters on my keyboard for hours now. It is about time to be more serious with my blogging career (if there is any, lol!) Now that this site is PR3, I am more inspired to share my thoughts and of course learn from my friends in blogosphere so expect me on your sites starting next week.

Last December, there were tasks that got expired, memes that I forgot, and friends site that I was not able to visit . I have been a lousy blogger I know. So to start with, I now have a planner for the memes and posts. I will jot down as well those ideas and events before they skip my mind. Sometimes, I got this selective amnesia, ehehe. I tend to forget things and worst I cannot recall them.

If you notice, I got a new header (designed by me), a Mom juggling. That would be me in the next days, weeks and months. I will try to balance everything from now on. That means less Facebook, Mom’s tasks in the morning, blogger from lunch ’til afternoon and RJs teacher in the evening. Oh wait, where is the “me” time? Well, I should have that “me” time once a month (keeping my fingers crossed).

A very busy 2011 for me, huh? How about you, what is your work resolution? Care to share?

My Favorite Pastime

My favorite pastime is the same as everybody’s pastime…blogging, ehehe!

At first, I was just influenced by a good friend, Payatot, to blog. Now, a day can’t pass without me blogging or blog hopping. Can’t live without it I guess. Blogging, as my pastime, changed my daily routine. Our house is now a mess…lol! Kidding aside, because of blogging I gained friends and have unlimited earnings.

A blog is a contraction of the term “web log”. The modern blog evolved from the online diary, where people would keep a running account of their personal lives. Justin Hall, who began personal blogging in 1994 while a student at Swarthmore College, is generally recognized as one of the earliest bloggers, as is Jerry Pournelle. (source) Today, blogging rapidly gained popularity. It’s not just a personal diary but it is also a medium of news dissemination, a source of income, and a campaign medium for politicians.
