Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and other social media networks are more than just sites to shout out to friends and post pictures. Businesses can take advantage of these thriving networks populated by consumers from all over the world. These networks in effect open your potential market up significantly to millions and maybe even billions. While it is best for small businesses to target a specific market segment, the vast online population at least gives them the flexibility of expanding their reach to other market segments too as they see fit. Having a strong presence in the social media networks put businesses in the hub of their customers’ lives.

Take a look at the following ways through which you can use social networking sites for your business:

Spread Awareness – start by opening a corporate or business account in these sites. You can opt to put up ads to if you have the means and budget. Otherwise, you can start the ball rolling by populating your networks. Make these sites your online bulletin board. You can post information about your business as well as any updates your customers would be interested in. Allow your potential customers to get to know you through these networks. Encourage your contacts to “share” or “like” your page to send ripples through the rest of the virtual community.

Create Positive Noise – it is not enough that you have information and pictures posted on your site. You have to actively create positive noise. Get people to talk about your business and your products and services. At the same time, be vigilant about negative posts and bashers. You want to be proactive about these since they can ruin your business too. Keep an eye on conversations about your business so that you can do a spin in a timely manner. Better yet, drown negative noise with positive noise.

Interact with Customers – while you are at it, you might as well engage your customers in meaningful conversation. Use your social networking account to talk to them on a personal level. Get to know what they are interested in, what they will settle for, what they will definitely spend their hard earned money for, and many other personal preferences that you would not otherwise learn about. With this kind of information, it will be easier for you to come up with products and service that are more responsive to your customers’ needs.

When Social Networking Sites Shut Down

Social networking sites have long been invading each and every one’s lives for quite some time. They almost become part of the core needs of being human these days. You won’t be able to feel you belong if you don’t have at least one of the most famous among them which is either Facebook or Twitter.

These social networking sites managed to become one of the most effective tools in advertising as well. The business sector has been using them to conveniently announce their promos and upcoming events. Media personalities are also utilizing the tool to deliver what’s the latest

Just imagine if these social networking sites will have an outage even for just an hour like what recently happened to Twitter. It suddenly displayed a not-so pleasing statement saying that the site is down and their personnel are currently solving the problem. This happened at exactly 24hours before the start of the 2012 Olympics. Just imagine the bulk of information that were not sent during this time. Good thing they were able to solve the issue immediately.

It’s funny though that when Twitter users just can’t use it, they immediately rant their thoughts over Facebook and the same thing would happen if the same thing will happen to the latter.

It is Facebook’s 10th anniversary and to mark their 10 years of existence, they are giving their users a great gift…the Facebook Look Back. It is a compilation of the highlights from the day a user signed up on Facebook. Included in the Look Back are the user’s first moments in Facebook, most liked posts, and photos shared (around 4 to 7). The Facebook Look Back plays with a heart-warming music making it nostalgic.

Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, also marked the anniversary with a post on his timeline…

“It’s been an amazing journey so far, and I’m so grateful to be a part of it. It’s rare to be able to touch so many people’s lives, and I try to remind myself to make the most of every day and have the biggest impact I can.”

Mark Zuckerberg also envisioned that in the next decade social networks will help people answer questions and solve complex problems. Coming from a genius who makes complex things uncomplicated, it is not impossible to happen.

Social media happened to group people with common interest thus making it easier for business to get to meet their specific market. It allowed them to quantity the demands against their capability to satisfy such need. It also helped out the business sector strengthen their bonds with their clients because of its interactive features.

Facebook’s Impact and Influence

An old friend/high school classmate, added me to her Facebook friends yesterday. The last time I saw her was when we had our batch reunion three years ago. We had a little reminiscing of our high school days and experiences together with our other classmates in high school who happen to be our Facebook friends as well. We talked about how our old classmates look like now; who turned to be he ugly ducklings and the golden swans. Lol!

It is amazing how Facebook as well as other Social Networking sites bring people together. But I must say in all Social Networks, Facebook is the one that brought impact and influenced people’s lives the most. It does not only help people to find and have contacts with their long lost friends and classmates, former officemates and relatives overseas; it also opened new opportunities for others. I have friends who got job and business because of Facebook. I can’t blame why most people love this Social Network very much. I even see people wearing funny tshirts with icons like this one.

But of course if you are not a Facebook fan, you won’t find it funny. And if you are one of those who see Facebooking as a waste of time, maybe you’re irked by now because I am singing it praises. It is because Facebook helps me know how other people think most especially those who are dear to me. I am fascinated by their rants about the traffic, angst on economic crisis, political views, lovely quotes and funny jokes. Oh yes, I don’t want to be left behind. I will also shout what’s on my mind, be it  humor or outrage, to the whole world.
