Winter Sonata (Winter Love Song)

 My Rating: 8.5/10
I love Korean novelas. “Winter Sonata” also known as Winter Love Song is what I love the most. The series is the second installment to director Yun Suk-ho’s romantic seasonal TV drama, Endless Love. It touched so many women’s heart including mine. It is a traditional love triangle story supported with the intriguing plots and twists such as erroneous memories and filthy family ties. Its breathtaking scenery and melancholic soundtrack made it more lovable.

Kang Joon Sang (Jhun Khang in Tagalized version), a son of a well-known musician, is a quiet and shy young man. They move to Chuncheon, a rural city in South Korea. Joon Sang meets Jung Yu-jin and Oh Che-lin and become his high school classmates. Joon Sang soon falls in love with Yu-jin, who opens herself to him with an innocent heart. However, circumstances and fate dictate that their love will never be.

After 10 years, Yu-jin and Joon Sang meet again. Joon Sang who is suffering from amnesia is now known as Lee Min-hyeong (Joseph Lee in Tagalized version) and does not remember Yu-jin who is confused and torn between the man who looks so much like Joon Sang and her current boyfriend, Sang-hyoek.

Bae Yong Joon portrayed his character so well as Joon Sang and I became his big fan since then.  I also have CD of Winter Sonata’s soundtrack which I used to play everyday. My favorite is “My Memory” in all versions, Korean, English and Tagalog.
