Your Sleeping Position Says You Need Your Sleep

There are six sleeping positions according to Professor Chris Idzikowski, director of the UK Sleep Assessment and Advisory Service.

  • The Fetus- curled up on your side holding pillow. The most popular sleeping position.
  • The Soldier- flat on your back with arms on your side.
  • The Starfish- lying on your back with arms and legs out stretched.
  • The Log- lying on your side with both arms down by your side.
  • The Yearner- lying on the side with both arms out in front.
  • The Free-Faller- flat on your stomach with arms on the head or ears.

The best sleeping position is sleeping on your right side. Sleeping on the right side frees the heart to supply blood more easily. This is particularly helpful for the flow of blood to the liver, thus facilitating improved metabolism. Sleeping flat on one’s stomach is not good because this causes pressure on the lungs, heart and other organs. Sleeping on the left side is not good because this causes too much pressure on the heart. Sleeping on your back more likely to lead to snoring and bad night’s sleep. (source)
